CISM

Sydney Psychology Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a service which usually complements the EAP (Employee Assistance Programme). It is a specialised service providing a fast (on-site within 2 hours) and efficient response to minimise the psychological and physiological impact of the initial trauma.

When an accident, workplace injury, death, or other traumatic event such as a fire, robbery or disaster occurs in the workplace, most people experience emotions including shock, confusion, pain, grief and sometimes dissociation. Nearly everyone involved will have his or her thoughts consumed with the incident making concentration on work almost impossible.

Immediate CISM can reduce the impact of the traumatic event, help speed the process of returning to normal functioning, and reduce the likelihood of longer-term emotional disturbance.

At Sydney Psychology, our CISM service aims to enhance your people's focus toward a positive future by helping them to develop skills that will alleviate the problems associated with the painful experience. We understand that traumatic situations can occur at any time, and therefore provide a 24-hour contact and response service to those organisations who chose to contract our services in this area. After the initial response, all staff directly involved are followed up at 1 week and 1 month after the event and offered further psychological intervention.
